HUGE GRANT
FROM PROFESSOR KORFMAN
The
death of Professor Manfred Korfman, who had headed
the excavations in the ancient city Troia for 18 years,
deeply upset everyone around the world. This week it is
annouced that the library of Professor Korfman which
includes 200 thousand books will be brought to Canakkale.
In the meeting of the Canakkale Chamber of Trade and
Industry, the responsible of Troia Excavation Committee,
archeolog Rustem ASLAN, told that Professor Korfman has
granted his grand library including 200 thousand valuable
books to the Canakkale Tubingen Troia Association. Mr
ASLAN added that they are looking for a suitable place in
order to exhibit these valuable books. |

THE MYSTERY OF THE ANCIENT
PARION
The
findings of the 2005 excavation period of the ancient city
Parion has been delivered to the Canakkale Archeology
Museum. The head of the excavations team, Professor Cevat
BASARAN from Ataturk University, told that in the
excavation period of 2005, 4 ancient tombs had been found.
Among those tombs, 2 of them were opened and several
objects have been identified. Two golden crowns,which
thought to be 2000 year old, two ancient gold
coins which has the figure of 'god of sun', bull figured
necklace, a gold ring with valuable jewelery, earring
which has eros figure on it, a bronze amphore, and a
dagger were found in the ancient tombs. Furthermore 150
ancient object were identified in the 2005 excavation
period of the ancient city Parion. The 2005 excavation
period of the ancient city Parion will be completed on
August 20. Professor Basaran claimed the biggest
problem of the excavation team as the insufficient budget.

MARK WEBBER
VISITED THE ANZAC COVE
The famous formula 1 driver of BMW Williams Team, Mark
WEBBER, came to Canakkale in order to visit the Gallipoli
Historical National Park. Mr Webber came to the
Gallipollipoli Peninsula from Istanbul early in the morning
and visited the Lone Pine, and Anzac Cove Memorials. Mark
Webber also traced the grave of his grandfather. Mr Webber
told that he is extremely happy to be on the holy lands of
the Gallipoli Peninsula. |

CANAKKALE IS
CRYING FOR THE HERO OF TROY
Professor Manfred KORFMAN had been working on the ancient
city Troia for 18 years and he had achieved great success
with his finding in the national and international press.
Professor KORFMAN was working for Tubingen University,
Germany and working as an advisor for Canakkale Onsekiz
Mart University, Archeology Department. Professor KORFMAN
had several awards during his long lasting studies on the
ancient Troia such as 'Special Success Award' of Turkey
Historical, Cultural Heritage and Art Awards in 1998 and
'Encouraging Living Together Award' of Helga and
Edzart Reuter Association in 2001. Professor Korfman had
performed great work on the establishment of Canakkale -
Tubingen - Troia Association, was nominated as the
chairman in 2004.It is annouced that the funeral will be
on tuesday in Germany. |

THE HISTORICAL DIVING IS
STARTING

Sunk Battleships of the Gallipoli Campaign have been
explored day by day. 90 years after the Gallipoli
Campaign of the first World War, the famous sunk Brititish
Battleship 'Goliath' will be viewed in the coordination of
documentary producer, Savas KARAKAS, Tukey Underwater
Archeology Society (TINA), and professional sailor, Enes
EDIS. Mr EDES will provide the technical details of the
diving to the Goliath. Mr KARAKAS told that the Sunk British
Battleship 'Goliath' will be viewed in the impressive waters
of Morto Bay for the first time after the Gallipoli
Campaign. The videos of the diving to the 'Goliath' will be
shown on the National Geographic TV as a documentary.

EXCAVATIONS GET STARTED IN THE PARION ANCIENT CITY
The
archeological excavation period in the Parion ancient city
is started in the Kemer village of Canakkale. With
the permission of Cultural Heritages and Museums General
Directorship, the excavation team will explore the
lifestyle and culture of the ancient city Parion. The
excavation team will be directed by Professor Cevat
BASARAN from Atataurk University with 7 academics and 35
archeology students. The excavation period will continue
for 45 days. Professor BASARAN has been working on the
ancient city Parion for about 9 years and stated the goal
of the excavation period of the 2005 as to reach the
graves appeared in the necropole area of the ancient city
Parion

THE CAMPUS LIKE A HOLIDAY
VILLAGE
The
Dardonos Campus of Canakkale
Onsekizmart University is serving like a holiday village
in the summer period. The campus wellcomes not only the
university students but also the tourists and local people
around. The Dardonos Campus is located between Canakkale -
Izmir road, and can serve 1000 people in its nice beach.
Students, and Academics can also benefit from the
accomodation facilities of the Dardonos Campus. The
Dardonos settlement is located on 390.000 meter square
area with beach, sport, catering and accomodation
facilities. The director of the Dardonos Campus,
Selahattin BOZKURT, told that there are 68 rooms and
100 pax capacity seminar room in the settelement. The
university organises national and international meetings
and summer schools here. In addition, the campus offers
excellent opportunities for water sports such as wind
surfing. In fine weather, staff, students and other local
residents make use of the beach and catering facilities
for a pleasant day out, and those from farther afield can
enjoy a peaceful holiday here. Up to 280 guests can be
accommodated in the bungalow terraces and the dining and
conference halls have a total seating capacity of
500. There is a games and television room and the sports
hall has facilities for playing basketball and volleyball.
There is also a tennis court and an open air swimming
pool. A disco and bar provide entertaintment facilities.
The Faculties of Fisheries and Agriculture make use of
both the land and the sea at this campus to carry out
various educational and scientific projects. In addition,
students of the College of Tourism and Hotel Management
are provided with opportunities for practical training.

WINE PRODUCTION
IN THE INTEPE VILLAGE
OF CANAKKALE
It is announced that the factory that
would be built in the intepe district of Canakkale has a
capacity of 100 tones wine production. The chief of Intepe
Muniplicity, Alaattin OZKURNAZ, told that in the Canakkale
province although the most fertile grapes are grown in
Bozcaada and Intepe district, there is no wine production
in the Intepe due to lack of any factory. Mr OZKURNAZ told
their projects as follow."Last year we have produced 7
tones boutique home made wines with 50 family in Intepe.
With the positive results we have obtained with this
boutique production, we have decided to build a wine
factory in Intepe. "In intepe about 3 thousand
tones grapes is grown, and with this potential the local
people would produce their own in the propesed boutique
wine factory. Mr OZKURNAZ told that they have contacts
with the Italian authorities from the Nemi city in order
to export the produced wines in Intepe. Mr OZKURNAZ added
that their goal is to make Intepe as the second center
after Bozcaada for wine production in the Canakkale
province. |

EXCAVATION PERIOD IN THE ANCIENT
TROIA GET STARTED
The excavation period for
2005 in the world-famous ancient city Troia have started.
It is annouced that the excavation period will be directed
by the Professor of Tubingen University, Manfred Osman
KORFMAN, 50 scientists from 12 countries have taken their
place in the excavation team. In the excavation programme
the preliminary work which was started in 2004 would
continue. The studies in 2004 will be taken into
consideration more deeply. The proposed earthquakes which
had supposed to destroy the ancient Troy 6 and 7 will be
taken into consideration with further proofs. The
excavation period for 2005 is planned to be completed on
August 30,2005.

CANAKKALE ON FOCUS
Former
general manager of culture and tourism ministery , Orhan
KALKAN, told that for the development of Canakkale
Tourism, the present infrastructure should be improved.
Orhan KALKAN came to Canakkale as the tourism inspector
of Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Mr KALKAN claimed
that Canakkale is using less that 15% of her touristical
potential. Mr KALKAN addded that Canakkale should be
taken into the 'Tourism area and center' by the
Ministry of Culture and Tourism with subject to the
2366th law. Furthermore Mr KALKAN told that the concept
of the historical bazaar with mirros and the clock tower
square should be improved. Mr KALKAN insisted on the
investment for alternative tourism resources in order
to increase the number of accomodation more than one day
per guest in Canakkale.

TROIAN HORSE LOVERS
GET MARRIED
Last
year, the famous Troian Horse used in the popular
Hollywood movie, was brought to Canakkale with the
efforts of the Culture and Tourism Ministry and The
Muniplicity of Canakkale. In the reconstruction work of
the giant Troian horse used in Troy movie, the German
engineer, Erik LUDWIG, and the interpreter of the German
constraction crew, Semra BEDER, have fall in love with
each other. Yesterday their mysterious love has been
concluded with marriage. The couple told that Troian
Horse is the source of their love. The couple plan to
live in Canakkale

WORLD TOUR WITH YACHT
Ali and Nilgun Gunduz couple have started their world tour
with their 'Vagabond' yacht from the Canakkale Marine. Gunduz
couple told that they have been travelling with their yacht
for years and participated several yacht rallies. Mr Gunduz
told that they are ready for their dream trip which will last
about 5 years. In their route the couple will follow the
Aegean coasts for a while then track the Greek, Italian and
Spanish coasts. Next, they will head to Carribean Islands. In
their trip, Mrs Gunduz will record all the trip. The Gunduz
couple plans to perform a documentary with the videos of their
world trip.

HISTORY RISING FROM THE SOIL OF GALLIPOLI PENINSULA
Several objects from the Gallipoli Campaign has appeared on
the souls of the Gallipoli Peninsula. After the heavy rain on
sunday, several objects such as bullets, knifes, shrapnels and
so on have become visible on the Historical Gallipoli
National Park. The villagers of Alcitepe told that they always
encounter with such kind of objects from the Gallipoli
Campaign after the heavy rains.The objects found in the area
are exhibeted in the private gallery of Alcitepe village.
Tourists who have encountered with the objects on the souls of
the Gallipoli was impressed with mystery of Gallipoli
Peninsula Historical National Park.

EXCAVATION PERIOD HAS

It is
announced that the year 2005 excavation period of the
ancient city Troia will start on July 14, 2005. It is told
that the excavation will be directed by the Professor of
Tubingen University, Manfred KORFMAN, with a team of 70
archaeologists from 13 countries. It is planned to continue
the work on the uncompleted areas, which was started in
2004. The excavation period for 2005 will finish on
September 15, 2005. After the Hollywood movie 'Troy', the
famous ancient city is attracting increasing tourists from
all over the world.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH
VILLAGE
Envoirement and Forest Ministery representatives annouced that
a new project has launced in order to establish a children and
youth center in the Historical Gallipoli National Park. In the
youth center, accomodation, catering, education
and entertainment facilities will be orginised in order to
accomodate youths and children all over the Turkey. The
propesed location for the children adn youth center is
considered as the north of the Alcitepe Village. The area of
the center is proposed about 18 hectars on the former miltary
gunner base beside the Alcitepe Village. The complex is
proposed to accomodate 300 children and youths. On the other
hand an information center with regards to the Historical
National Gallipoli Park will be launched. The Envoirement and
Forest Ministery representatives told that 'the main goal
under this project is to introduce and teach the facts of the
most important place of Turkey History in gainning liberty.'

TURKISH-GREEK FRIENDSHIP IN CANAKKALE
A
group of 70 Greeks came to the Alcitepe (Kirte) village of
Canakkale in order to visit their homeland. The Greek group
is told to be the descendants of the Greeks, who had
immigrated to Greece from the Alcitepe village about 83
years ago. The Greek group firstly visited the houses and
envoirement of the Alcitepe village, then the Turkish locals
and Greek group had dinner together. The Greek group and
local Turks of the village had performed typical folklore
dances from Greece and Turkey after the dinner. Both groups
told that they are very glad to meet again after years. The
local Turks of the Alcitepe village added that they would
like to visit the sister village 'Krithia' soon.

LIVE HISTORY GALLERY THE HISTORICAL NATIONAL GALLIPOLI
PENINSULA
The researcher and writer, Mehmet Ihsan
GENCCAN, and his two friends has opened a live history
gallery in the Alcitepe Village of National Historical
Gallipoli Park. Mr GENCCAN told that he has been researching
on Gallipoli Campaign and published several books and
articles. Finally Mr GENCCAN and his two researcher friends
has achived their dream. In the live history gallery there
several objects with regards to Gallipoli Campaign as well
as demostrations of models reflecing some scenes taken from
the Gallipoli Campaign. There is also audio support for the
visitors. Mr GENCCAN told that their goal is to make
the visitors feel the mystery of those days. Mr GENCCAN
added that 'the Gallery is attracting huge number of
tourists since it was opened

MARMARA
YACHT RALLY IS OVER
The Marmara Yacht Rally (MAYRA) is over on
the Canakkale Yacht Marine. The rally was started 11 days
ago on the Istanbul Atakoy Marine with 20 yachts. The
attendants of the rally had a coctail party after the finish
in the Canakkale Yacht Marine. The responsible of the
Marmara Yacht Rally, Ali GUNDUZ told that they have been
organising this rally for 8 years and would continue to do
in the coming years. Several guests have attended the finish
coctail of the Marmara Yacht Rally

ENVOIREMENT
TRAINNING COURSE IN THE IDA MOUNTAIN
A
new course will be launched in order to promote the
beautiful sites of IDA Mountain of Canakkale. In the scope
of the course, the participants will be trainned with
regards to eco tourism resources of the IDA Mountain. Doing
so, trekking activities and photograph tours will be
performed. The tour period will be 5 days including 20 hours
theoric, and 30 hours on site trainning. In the weekends the
archeological and historical places would be visited in the
guidance of professional guides. The costs of the
envoirement trainning courses would be 250 ytl for single
occupancy and 250 ytl for double occupancy including the
lesson fees.

WAR SHELTERS IN CANAKKALE
Researcher and writer, Ramazan EREN, told that he had been
gathering information regarding the Turkish Historical
Monuments around Canakkale for years. In his long term work,
Mr EREN stressed the richeness of Canakkale in terms of
historical war shelters. Mr EREN stated that there are 19 war
shelters, which were mainly located around the Historical
National Gallipoli Park. One of the oldest war shelters can be
considered as the 'Anatolia Mecidiye Shelter', which was built
by Abdulmecid between the years 1839 and 1861. One of the
other historical war shelter was stated as the Bolayir, which
was built between the years 1853 - 1856.

RAPID INCREASE IN
THE AMERICAN TOURISTS COMING TO CANAKKALE
With its several impressive touristical sites, Canakkale is
attracting increasing numbers of tourists all over the world
each year. In the last one month, the number of American
tourists is rapidly increasing. After the 'Corinthian 2'
cruise, a grand yacht called 'Sea Cloud' with its 54
American Passengers came to Canakkale in order to visit the
world famous ancient city Troy.
