DIVING TO THE 5 SUNK BATTLESHIPS IN THE DARDANELLES STRAIT

With the request of the Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University and with the authorisation of the Turkish General Staff,  5 separate research dives to the sunk battleships such as 'Ceyhun', 'Kios', 'Rehber', 'Elenora', and 'Despina', has been performed in order to get detaillled information in the scope of the research 'Martyries Underwater'. The dives to the 5 sunk battleships had been performed in the command of Naval Staff Captain, Murat Hatiğ. The diving team had first performed the diving to the 'Ceyhun' Battleship in the deep waters of the Yapildak Village, later on the divings of 'Kios' Battleship around Akbas district, 'Rehber' Battleship  around Aksoz village of Karabiga distrct, 'Elonara' Battleship around the Kemer village, 'Despina' Battleship, which was hit by the English E-11 submarine, around the Cardak district had been performed. It is told that the research results would be declared as report in the following months. 

ANZAC CEREMONY IN THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA

200 Australian Tourist came near Anzac Cove with a cruise  and performed a ceremony in the region. After coming Istanbul by plane, the Australin Tourist group started their trip with 9975 gross tones 'Seabourn Sprit' Cruise from Istanbul to Canakkale. The 'Seabourn Sprit' Cruise stopped nearby to the Kabatepe harbour around 06:00 a.m. and  the Australian Tourists was talen to the beach of Kabatepe by boats. Then the Australian Tourists moved to the Anzac Cove. A ceremony was performed with the Australian Tourist group. The Canakkale Consul  Peter Rennert has also attended the ceremony and gave a small speech about the history of the Gallipoli Landings. Later on, the General Manager 'Austral Bricks', Lindsay Partridge has  also gave a speech and stated that it is very emotional for them to be in the Gallipoli Peninsula after 92 years since the Gallipoli Campaign. After the speeches, the National Antems of Australia and New Zealand have been sang and garlands have been put to the monuments. It is told that the trip has been orginised by the Australia's number one brick company, Austral Bricks for their best customers.

TRAVELLING WITH THE REPLICA OF THE 3300 YEARS OLD HISTORICAL SHIP

The researchers, who has built the replica of the 3300 years old sunk trade ship, has arrived to Canakkale. Archeolog Osman Erkut, the project manager of the '360 degree research group' told that by building the replica of the historical trade ship ' Uluburun', they are trying to explore how it was travelled with this type of ship in that times. Archeolog Erkut told that their aim is to attract the interest of the National and International press to the Anatolian History and Turkish Marines. Doing so, '360 degree research group' has built the replica of the 3300 years old 'Uluburun' and they started to explore the working conditions and lifesytle of  sailing with a historical ship. Archeolog Erkut told that they have completed 3000 miles since 2004. Mr Erkut added that their current route is from Istanbul to Izmir and they have stopped in the Canakkale Marine due to unsuiatble weather conditions. Mr Erkut stated that they have 9 researchers in their crew. The interesting outlook of the research ship has attracted the attention of the locals and tourists.

THE TROY HORSE HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO MAINTANANCE

The Troy Horse, which was used in the 'Troy' Movie has been taken into maintanance. The model of Troy Horse was first used in the Troy movie, which Brad Pitt starring, then it was granted to Canakkale with the initiative of Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Troy Horse has been located in front of the Canakkale Governorship building by the sea with the decision of the Canakkale Muniplicity. The President of Canakkale Muniplicity, Ulgur Gokhan told that The model of Troy Horse, which was brought 3 years ago from the Troy Movie, has been taken into yearly maintanance before the start of the tourism season. It is told that the deformed parts of the Troy Horse model would be repaired and painted in order to keep the horse in better condition. It is also told that it is planned to change the location of the model of Troy Horse from its current location to the 18 Mart Park, but this plan would not be performed very soon. It is told that the maintanance work of the Troy Horse would take around 1 week.

HISTORICAL MEETING IN THE ANZAC COVE

Thousands of Tourists from Australia and New Zealland has attanded the 92th anniversary of Anzac Day Celebrations. Around 10.000 Australian and New Zeallanders including some of the official bodies have attanded the Dawn Service in the Anzac Cove, and showed their respect to their ancestors who have fought bravely in the Gallipoli Peninsula. The Dawn Service had started at 05:30 in the morning with the one minute silence to the Soldiers who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign. The Turkish, Australian, New Zelland and British Flags had been run up with the national anthems. Later on, speeches stressing the importance of Anzac Day have been performed. After the speeches the Dawn Service had been performed by the Priest and the People prayed for the Soldiers who lost their lives. Further speeches have been performed after the Dawn Service particularly about the importance of Anzac Day. After the speeches, the officials from Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, India, England have put garland to the Anzac Monument. In order to make visible all the ceremonies, huge screens have been set in the field. New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peter, Australia Defence Minister, Brendon Nelson and Canakkale Vice Governor Ali Partal, and representitives of 11 countries had attended the Anzac Day ceremonies.

THE FIRST TOURISTICAL CRUISE OF THE 2007 TOURISM SEASON HAS ARRIVED

The first tourisitcak cruise of the 2007 tourism season of Canakkale arrived Canakkale with its 342 passengers. The 18.5911 gross tones Cruise, Astoria,which was coming from the agean sea  has entered the Dardenelles strait in the early morning hours.The 164 meter lenght  'Astoria' came to the Kepez Port at 08:30 a.m.The international passengers of Astoria get off the cruise and took busses, which go to the touristical sites of Canakkale. In order to celebrate the first cruise of the 2007 in the dardanelles strait, Vice -Governor, Yusuf Ziya Ince, President of Kepez Muniplicity, the owner and manager of a ship agent in Canakkale have visited the captain of 'Astoria'.  The Vice - Governor, Yusuf Ziya Ince, told that each year the passennger capacity of Kepez Port is increasing, therefore the quality standards should be improved as soon as possible..

THE MAINTANANCE WORK IN THE ANZAC ROAD HAS STARTED

The 6500 meter Anzac Road, which takes place in the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, has been taken into maintanance before the Anzac Day Ceremonies.The Anzac Road  was originally constructed 2 years ago, but damaged badly by the time due to small land slides as well as uncompleted infrastructure. The deformation of the Anzac Road after the original construction had attracted several reactions. The Canakkale Governor, Mr Orhan KIRLI, told that the construction work of Anzac Road had originally started in 2005 with agreement between Turkish and Australian Authorities. Later on, the Austalian public opinion had judged the construction of the Anzac Road and rejected the project claimming that the project would result with deformation of the historical and natural envoirement of the field. Then, The Turkish Authorities suspended the project respecting the good will between two countries. However this break had caused the badly deformation of the uncompleted Anzac Road. Furthermore some finance problems had arised and the road was left damaged for some time. Governor Mr Orhan KIRLI added that after all, the maintanance of the uncompleted and deformed Anzac Road has started. Doing so reinforcement to the walls of the road would be performed, and all the damaged asphalt would be removed, the infrastructure would be reinforced and the 6500 meter Anzac Road would be reconstructed. Governor Mr Orhan KIRLI told that their aim is to complete the service road before the 89th Anniversary of the Anzac Day Ceremonies.

NAMAZGAH SHELTERS HAS BEEN RESTORATED

It is coming to end of the restoration work of namazgah war shelterswhich was originally built in 1840s in the Kilitbahir village of Canakkale. The Coordinator of Delta Engineering and Consultancy Ltd, Omer Yorukoglu, told that %90 of the restoration work of historical Namazgah War Shelters has been completed after 400 days hard work. Mr Yorukoglu added that there are 26 war shelters in the scope of the restoration work of Namazgah War Shelters, which lies over 80 decars area. In the beginning the restoration of one war shelter was completed as a model and then the rest of the area has been taken into maintanance in order to make the area suitable for the restoration work. Mr Yorukoglu told they have spent immense effort for the maintanance of the field. Mr Yorukoglu added that the restoration work of the Namazgah War Shelters is planned to be completed by June, 2007.

HISTORICAL BUILDINGS WILL BE EXPROPRIATED

The President of Canakkale Muniplicity, Ulgur GOKHAN, urged the owners of the registered historical buildings in Canakkale in order to perform restoration immediatly otherwise it is stated that the unrestorated historical buildings, which are in bad condition, would be expropriated by the Canakkale Muniplicty. The President of Canakkale Muniplicity, Ulgur GOKHAN, stressed the importance the restoration of historical buildings in Canakkale. Mr GOKHAN told that they have identified about 40 historical buildings in bad condition and they have suceeded to restorate about %60 by urging the owners of the buildings. Mr GOKHAN told that their aim is to reflect the shinning face of Canakkale and doing so, they would like to perform every effort in order to support the restoration of the historical buildings of Canakkale.

THE EPIC NOVEL OF TROY BY MRS O’DONELLY WON THE HISTORICAL FICTION AWARD

An Epic Novel of Troy and a Woman’s Triumphant Valor, ‘Andromakhe’, written by the best seller author ‘Kristina O'Donnelly’, won 1st Place, Historical Fiction, POW! Award for '06-'07. Furthermore Ms O’Donnelly won the ‘Most Valueble Person’ award in People’s Choice Category of POW!Kristina O’Donnelly was born in Rome and grew up in Istanbul, Turkey. Growing up in Istanbul, in the 1960s, Kristina fell in love with Turkey and her gallant people. She was a child film-star and later a poet and a journalist and published a daily column in the major Istanbul daily. A die-hard romantic and idealist, truly imbued with a can-do, will-do spirit, she strived, to the best of her abilities, to champion the rights of the down-trodden. Kristina O’Donnelly moved to New York after ending her unfortunate marriage. In time she moved up to be employed for the New York Daily News as an advertising rep., and then trailblazed as a newspaper union officer (The Newspaper Guild of America). WIND POWER STATION IN CANAKKALE

The construction work of wind power stations in the kurttepe district of Intepe, Canakkale, which would produce 100 milion KW/h electrical energy, have been going on very fast. The chief of Intepe Muniplicity, Alaaddin OZKURNAZ, told that it has already been built 6 wind tribunes, and it is aimed to built 10 tribunes in the first phase. At the end of the project total 38 wind tribunes would be in action. Furthermore another project would be launched in the coming years and with the second project the number of wind tribues in Canakkale would increase up to 78. The first phase of the wind power tribune construction would produce 30.60 MegaWatt energy which is around half of the Can Thermic Energy Station. Mr Ozkurnaz added that it is expected to be built around 400 - 500 wind power tribues in the next 20 years in the kurttepe distrct of Intepe, Canakkale. Doing so, the largest wind power station of Turkey would be in the Canakkale region. Mr Ozkurnaz added that 'as being the infinitive energy sources, wind power stations should be encouraged by the Governments in order to decrease the energy dependence of Turkiye to the other countries'. The amount of the investment for the 38 wind tribunes is expected to be 40 Milion Euro.

A NEW FERRY BOAT WILL BE BOUGHT FOR GOKCEADA ISLAND

Canakkale Governor, Mr Orhan KIRLI, told that 25 Milion YTL budget by the Transportation Ministry has been reserved in order to buy a new ferry boat for the transportation between Gokceada Island and Canakkale. In the meeting of the Canakkale Governor Orhan KIRLI with the members of Canakkale Town Council, Mr KIRLI annouced the good news for Gokceada Island. Furthermore Governor KIRLI told that they would improve the conditions of Gokceada hospital with  additional Doctors placement. Governor KIRLI stressed the importance of improving health, education and muniplicity services of the Gokceada island. Governor KIRLI told that they are working hard in order to improve the quality of living conditions in the Gokceada Island.   

FLGHTS BETWEEN CANAKKALE AND ISTANBUL HAS STARTED

After 7 years of silence, Canakkale Airport has reopened its doors with flights between Canakkale and Istanbul. A Ceremony has been organised in order to celebrate the reopenning of the Canakkale Airport. Transportation Minister, Binali YILDIRIM, has attended the ceremony and stated that transportation is the engine of improvement of countries. Minister YILDIRIM added that if we can not sustain comfortable and high quality transportation infrastructure, we can not compete in the world market conditions. Minister YILDIRIM also stressed his happiness of reopenning of Canakkale Airport. President of Atlasjet Executive Board, Mr Murat Ersoy, told that they have received immense support from the ministry of transportation. Mr Ersoy added that with the openning of Canakkale Airport, Turkey is now connected from its west end to the east end.

THE WOODEN HORSE HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO MAINTENANCE

The model of the ancient Troian Horse in the ancient city Troia has been taken into maintanance. The Manager of Culture and Tourism Directorship of Canakkale , Ismail KANZSIZ, told that with the 106.000 YTL budget, they have opened a bid for the maintanance of the wooden Troian horse. Mr Kansiz stressed that every year thousands of local and international tourists have been visiting the ancient Troia, and the need for maintanance has  emerged after its construction on 1974.  Mr Kansiz told that the maintanance of the model of the ancient Troian horse would last around one and half months, and then would be on the serve of all tourists.

"GOLD" NEWS IN THE MOUNT IDA

MTA (Mine Research and Exploration Institute) announced that gold and uranium reserves have been found in the Kısacik district of Ayvacik town of Canakkale. MTA North West  Anatoli Ganeral Manager Asistant, Ramazan Konakbay attended the  Canakkale Town Coordination Cosul meeting, and told that after the 6 years exploration work in the Kisacik, Ayvacik district, they have submitted the final report with regards to mine reserve potential of the field. The report would be investigated by Metallurgy General Management, and a bid  would be opened for the extraction work of the gold mines in the field.

WORLD TOUR ON BICYCLE

After flying from Wellington New Zealand to London, Mr Aaron Kerr has started a world tour on August 09, 2006. After the 3 months journey, Mr Kerr arrived to Kucukkuyu district of Ayvacik, Canakkale. The 30 year old adventurer, Aaron Kerr, told that he has been travelling for 3 months, and he started his trip from England and followed the route 'France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Greece. Mr Kerr added that he has entered to Turkey from Ipsala Border about ten days ago, and followed the route Istanbul, Tekirdag, Canakkale and now in Kucukkuyu. Mr KERR told that he has been impressed by the natural beauty of Kucukkuyu district. Mr KERR also told that he is impressed with the statue of Ataturk between the Turkiye Flags in Kucukkuyu and the friendliness of Turkish people. Mr KERR added that he would carry on to Ayvalik, and then follow the route, 'Izmir, Antalya, Mersin, Hatay and then pass to Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. Mr Kerr would fly back to New Zealand from Cairo.

THE CONSTRUCTION WORK OF KORFMANN LIBRARY HAS BEEN PROGRESSING RAPIDLY

The construction work of "Korfmann Library" by restorating the historical TEKEL Building in the fevzipasa stree is progressing rapidly. The historical building has been bought by the Canakkale Munilicity and devoted to the "Canakkale - Tubingen Troia Foundation". The Canakkale Muniplicity Construction and Planning representitves told that the restoration work of the Historical TEKEL Building, which is on 190 sqm area, is progressing rapidly. After the sudden death of the long lasting excavation president of the ancient Troia, Professor Korfmann, the invaluable library of Professor Korfmann, which consist of 2.500 unique books, and 230 meters shelf long documents and books, have been devoted to "Canakkale - Tubingen Troia Foundation". The respresentitives told that in order to host the invalauble library of Professor Korfmann and keep alive his legacy, they are working very hard to restorate the impressive historcal TEKEL buiding. It is told that the restoration would be completed in 2 months time.

(COMU) HAS OPENED A TOURISM SCHOOL IN THE BOZCAADA ISLAND

Tourism and Travel Managament School has been opened in conjuction with the Gokceada Vocational Collage of Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University (COMU). The director of Gokceada Vocational Collage of Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Mr Rıdvan YURTSEVEN told that, Higher Education Institute (YOK) has approved the Bozcaada Tourism and Management School, and they have started accepting students for the year 2006-2007 from the additional quota of the University.Mr YURTSEVEN told that they have sorted the building problem with the help of Bozcaada Muniplicity. Mr YURTSEVEN told that they would accept 40 students this year. It is told that the education duration would be 2 years and the population of the school would be 80 in the nomal conditions. Mr YURTSEVEN told that the education in the Bozcaada Tourism and Trvael Managament School would start on October.

ADVANTURERS FROM UNITED STATES IN CANAKKALE

29 American Tourists from Arizona came to Canakkale in order to visit the ancient city Troia. The American tourists told that they believe their ancestors had come to  Arizona from the ancient Troia. The American tourists have performed a demostration by landing the shores of the Ancient Troia from the sea. Next the American tourists watched the demostration performed for them. The 29 American tourists came to Canakkale from Kusadasi and stayed one night. In the following morning, the tourists visited the horse in the harbour of Canakkale that was used in the Hollywood movie ' Troy'. Later on, the tourists departed from the Canakkale Harbour to the Yenikoy Harbour which is close to the ancienty Troia. After 2 and half hours, they came to the Yenikoy Harbour and in the harbour they were welcomed by the Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University Photography Department Students. The students have performed a demostration from the ancient Troia in the leadership of the theather player 'Esra Pamukcu'.  After the demostration, the students and the American tourists have taken photographs together.

THE RELATIONSHIPS WITH GREEK ISLAND IS BEING IMPROVED

After the visit of the Canakkale Commerce and Industry Association (CTSO) to the Middili Island, it is told that another visit will be performed to Limmi Island. The current president of CTSO, Ilhami Tezcan told that they had performed a very successful visit to Midilli Island with the high level officials of Canakkale including the Governor Orhan INCE, and the President of Canakkale Muniplicity, Ulgur GOKHAN, and the Canakkale Deputies. Mr Tezcan told that after the meetings with the Midiili Officials, it agrred to improve the commerce between Canakkale Province and the Middilli Island. It is told that Middili would have elections in the coming month and further meetings would be performed after the elections in Midilli Mr Tezcan told that after the elections in Greece , they would also visit the Limmi  Island in the leadership of Canakkale Governor Orhan INCE. Mr TEZCAN told they have performed neccessary actions in order to start the connection of Touristical and Commerce Ships between Limmi and Kepez Harbour.

91 YEAR OLD SEA-MINE WAS EXPLODED IN THE DARDANELLES

The 91 Year Old Mine in the Dardanelles was exploded and terminated by the Under Water Defence (SAS) Commandos. Some time ago the amateur divers informed the coast security that they have recognised a sea mine in the Dardanelles about 100 meters away from the coast. After the information of the amateur divers, the Strait Commandership has sent the Under Water Defence (SAS) Commandos tot the area in order to terminate the 91 year old mine. After the high security conditions sustained in the region, the SAS Commandos has performed an operation in order to explode and terminate the 91th year old mine, which is in the 5 meters depth of Dardanelles. the operation took about 30 minutes, and the SAS Commandos exploded the 91 year old mine. The explotion of the 91 year old mine caused about 25 meters water rise in the Dardanelles.

VOYAGE WITH 91 YEAR OLD HISTORICAL CRUISE

The English Billionaires visited the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park with 91 year old historical cruise ship. 25 English Tourists has visited the Gallipoli Peninsula Historcial National Park  with a historical ship which is in the same age with the landings in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915.  The english tourists first came to Istabul by plane, and then came to Gallipoli Peninsula by bus. The group first visited the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, then came to Eceabat and took the 91 year old Historical Ship in order to experience the impressive coasts of the Gallipoli Peninsula. The group was guided by the owner of TJs Travel Agency, Ilhami Gezici. The group had overnight in the morto bay of the Gallipoli Peninsula, and then went to Anzac Cove in the morning. The owner of the TJs Travel Agency, Ilhami Gezici, told that the group is composed of retired high level army officials as well as some high level politicians. It is also told that the ship was made in Scotland in 1915, and it is 988 gross tones weight and 49 meters long. Mr Gezici told that the group would continue to their voyage trip by the historical cruise to Istanbul and then they will fly back yo England after visiting the historical plces in Istanbul.

TURKISH WAR MEMORIAL IS GOING TO BE RESTORATED

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Atilla KOC, announced that it is contracted with an engineering company in order to restorate the Turkish War Memorial. Minister KOC told that they are a bit sad about the unwillingness of some huge engineering companies in order to take part in the renovation. Minister KOC told that although the renovation the Turkish War Memorial is not a very wide scope project, it should be perceived as a prestigious project. Minister KOC told that Gallipoli Penisula Historical National Park can be considered as one of the most important places for Turkey History which strengten our national integrity, therefore the restoration of the Turkish Memorial has a crucial importance for us. Minister KOC told that the Turkish Memorial is not in a good condition in terms of strengthness of the construction, therefore the restoration work would start very soon.

THE 750.000 USD VALUED MEDAL

The Distinguished Service Medal of the Australian Soldier, Alfred Shout, who had involved the Anzac Landing in the Gallipoli Peninsula in April 25, 2006 was sold for 750.000 USD in an auction in Victoria Cross Sydney. The grand child of Alfred Shout had given the Distinguished Service Medal to the auction and an Australian Businessman had bought the medal for 1 milion Australian Dolars ( about 750.000 USD). It is told that the medal would be given to the Canberra War Museum by th Australian Businessman who bought the medal form the auction in Sydney. The reason of the high value of the medal was claimed that it had been the last medal which was with the grand children of the Australian Soldiers who have involved the Gallipoli Campaign. It is also told that the preceding medal, which was sold before in an auction, had costed 345.000 USD. It is told that Alfred Shout had gained this medal due his impressive struggle in the Gallipoli Campaign although he had been wounded all over his face with gun fire shrapnel.

HUGE TURKISH FLAG TO THE DARDANELLES

A huge Turkish flag has been placed  over the famous 'Dur Yolcu' poem, which is written to the side of the hills near Kilibahir Village looking at the Dardanelles  Strait.  Turkish Military Forces has performed placement and sponsorship of the huge Turkish Flag over the  famous ' Dur Yolcu' poem.  The Turkish Flag has been placed on the hand of the Turkish Soldire Figure near the 'Dur Yolcu' poem. The height of the flag pole is stated as 45 meter, and the area of the flag as 96 square meters. The Huge Turkish Flag can easilly be seen by all ships passing by  dardanelles as well as from Canakkale.

DENIZ CRUISE AND FERRY LINES START OPERATING BETWEEN ISTANBUL AND IZMIR

Deniz Cruise and Ferry lines had bought 2 ferries which one of them is the famous 'Samsun' ferry, and completely renovated them in order serve between Istanbul and Izmir. On their route, the ferry boats pass through Dardanelles (Canakkale Straight) between Istanbul and Canakkale. As being the first private ferry line, Samsun and 'Anakara Ferry boats have been exclusively renovated in 5 star hotel comfort and offering high comfort to its guests.Deniz Cruise and Ferry Lines have been formed as a joint venture of a  Sea Trade Chamber and TURSAB, and the company has bought and renovated the two ferries called 'Samsun' and 'Ankara' some time ago. The general manager of the Deniz Cruise and Ferry Lines, Cem GUNDES, told that they have invested around 16 milion dolars for the renovation of the ferries, and they have started their schedule between Istanbul and Izmir on June 16, 2006. Mr Cem GUNDES told that they are targeting to attract the attention of the Turkish citizens to the beauty of sea travel. Mr Cem GUNDES added that 'Ankara' ferry would also be used for package cruise programmes. It is told that all the ferries have 169 rooms including 26 suits, 110 pullman seats, 220 vehicle and 575 customer capacity.The ferries also have special section for pets. In the Ferries, Restaurant,  cafe, terrace, disco, kids club, fitness center, swimming pool, coiffeur and business center are available. Mr GUNDES stated that it takes around 16 hours trip from Istanbul to Izmir, and added that it would cost 65 YTL for the pullman seats, 180 YTL for the standard seats, 550 YTL for the suites and 750 YTL for the suits which have panoramic view. Mr Cem GUNDES told that they would start east Black Sea, and Greek Island tours by the beginning of August. Mr GUNDES added that they are also planning to offer package progrrammes to Canakkale particularly for Australian, New Zealand, and British tourists.

FLOATING QUAY FOR THE CANAKKALE YACHT MARINE

Canakkale Muniplicity has started preparations in order to increase the capacity of the Canakkale Yacht Marine. Doing so, using floating quays is proposed in order to increase the capacity of the Canakkale Yacht Marine. The Chief of the Canakkale Muniplicity, Mr Ulgur GOKHAN, told that 65 yacht capacity of the current Canakkale Yacht Marine do not repond to the demand, therefore Canakkale Muniplicity has started  the project of   the capacity increament of the current  Canakkale Yacht Marine. Mr Gokhan told that the method of floating quays is a very common method in some yacht marines all over the world. Mr GOKHAN told that preliminary work in order to accommodate 80 more yachts is still going on. Mr GOKHAN told that the capacity increament of the current yacht marine would cost around 500.000 YTL and at the end the capacity would be increased 150 Yachts. Mr GOKHAN stressed the importance of yacht marines' for the tourism potential of a city and they are working hard to improve the potential of Canakkale Yacht Marine.

CANAKKALE'S CLUTURE INVENTORY IS GOING TO BE PREPAIRED

A new committee has been launhced in order to prepare the inventory of the cultural values of Canakkale. The Vice Canakkale Governor, Yusuf Ziya Ince, told that the committee is formed by archeologists, art historians, and specialists from civil public associations in order to complete the cultural inventory of the Canakkale Province. Mr Ince told that the committee has already started to visit the villages, towns, archealogical sites and historical places of the Canakkale district in order to identfy the historical and archeological values of Canakkale. Mr Ince added that after completing the project of the inventory of the cultural values of Canakkale, they are going to publish it as a reference book. The project results will also be in the website of the Canakkale Governorship. Mr Ince stated that they are expecting to complete the first part of the research by the end of 2007.

ECO TOURISM PROGRESS IN BOZCAADA

It is announced that agriculture producers of  Bozcaada would primarily invest on organic grape production. Canakkale Province Agriculture Directorship Vice President, Ilkay UCAR told that they have been orginasing several meetings in Bozcaada in order to stimulate the organic grape production of the island. Mr UCAR told that a contract with regards to  organic grape production in the 3300 decars of land in Bozcaada, which belongs to 77 separare grape producers.  The contract has been signed between the official representitive of Bozcaada, Bilal Ozdemir  and The Eco-Cert Control and Certification Representitive, Mustafa AVCI.  Mr UCAR stressed that all the conditions for organic grape  production is very suitable in Bozcaada. The first year of the project would be sponsored by the Bozcadada Governorship. In the concept of the project it is aimed to  give certification to the suitable lands of Bozccada for organic grape production. Furthermore it is aimed to promote Bozcaada as 'organic island' to the world market which would be a pioneer project for agricullture and eco-tourism. It is believed that the tourism potential of the island would increase dramatically.

THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ANCIENT TROY EXCAVATION COMMITTEE: ERNST PERNICKA

After the death of Professor Korfmann in 2005, the legandary president of the excavation community of the ancient city Troy, which is located by the Tevfikiye village of Canakkale, the new president of the excavation community has been nominated as Professor Ernst Pernicka from the Tubingen University of Germany. Professor Ernst Pernicka stressed one of the most important issues in the anicent Troy as the absence of a Grand Museum which would be the host of excavation findings as well as several others findings which have been exhibited in several countries of the world. Professor Ernst Pernicka stated that buiding the Troia Museum is also very important for the world history and the ancient Troy has a special meanning for all the people in the world. Professor Pernicka stressed that ' every historical and ancient value should be exhibited where it is belong to'.

EMERGING HISTORICAL REALITIES

Jennifer Lawless, Australian Writer and Researcher, revisited Canakkale with regards to her studies on 'Anzac Prisoners of War'. Ms Lawless also performed a seminar named ' Lost Anzacs; A General Perspective of Anzac Prisoners of War' in the Suleyman Demirel Congress Center. Ms Lawless told that there had been insufficient research and literature with regards to Anzac Prisoners of War, added that some early propagandist literature on this issue do not reflect the reality. Ms Lawless stated that she had been working on Anzac Prisoners of war for 5 years and mainly focused on Anzac Prisoners of War in the Gallipoli Campaign. Ms Lawless told that she had identified 66 Anzac Prisoners of War. Ms Lawless added that these Prisoners of War had been transfered to different places in Turkey . Ms Lawsless added that those Anzac Soldiers who were wounded had been taken to Istanbul Capa and Gumussuyu Hospital and was kept here for a long time. Ms Lawless told that those who wasn't wounded, was sent to the Prisoners of War Camps. Ms Lawless stated the biggest Prisoners of War Camp as the Afyonkarahisar, and other camps are stated as Kastamonu, Gediz, Ankara, Pozantı, Çankırı, Yozgat, Bor, Adapazarı and Yesilkoy. Ms Lawless told that Anzac Prisnoers of War had not been in bad conditions, in fact they had several social activities.

THE CANOE TRIP OF THE AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURERS

The 23 adventurous members of the Veteran Club from Australia get started an exiting trip from Gallipoli Town to the Anzac Cove which is about 44 miles distance. The Australian Veteran Group completed their preparations early in the morning despite of heavy rain. Later on, the Australian Veteran Group started their adventurous trip from the Hamza Bay of the Gallipoli Town. The canoes used in the trip was for 2 people. One of the group members from Canberra, Brian Liddy, stressed the importance of the 5 day long adventurous trip from Gallipoli town to Anzac Cove. Brian Liddy told that they are all proud of doing this activity in order to honor the hereos of Gallipoli Campaign in the holly land of the Gallipoli Peninsula. Brian Liddy added that they are going to complete the 44 miles distance with their conoes from Gallipoli Town to Anzac Cove which would take 5 days. The route of the trip is defined as Gallipoli Town, Eceabat, Canakkale, Kepez , Kum Motel and Anzac Cove.

CTSO START WORKING ON ACTIVATION OF CANAKKALE AIRPORT

Canakkale Chamber of Commerce (CTSO), start working on activation of Canakkale Airport. Doing so the representives of CTSO started negotiations with private airline companies in order to start up regular flights to Canakkale. The president of CTSO, Ilahami Tezcan told that, they have been working for the activation fo Canakkale Airport for a long time. Mr Tezcan added that in order to fullfill the conditons for passenger airplane landing, they have also increased the fire safety category from grade 4 to grade 7 with the assistance of the Canakkale Deputy Mehmet Danis. Mr Tezcan told that they are still carrying on negeotiations with Atlas Jet. Mr Tezcan told that Atlas Jet would start its regular flights to Edremit, a touristical town close to Canakkale, on June 1, 2006. Mr Tezcan also told that they have assigned Mr Hayrettin Dereli in order to pepare the feasibility report for the Canakkale Airport. Mr Tezcan stressed the importance of airline conncetion to Canakkale from other cities and told that they would work hard in order to achieve this project.

91TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ANZAC DAY CELEBRATION IN THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA WAS HELD

91th anniversary of the Anzac Day Celebrations was held in the Historical National Gallipoli Peninsula Park. Thousands of Australian, New Zealand and Turkish Citezens met in the Historical Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25, 2006. About 8 thousand Australian and Zealand Citizen including goverment represesntives attended the Dawn Service in the Anzac Cove. At 05.30 a.m. the Dawn Service of the 91th anniversary of the Anzac Day get started with 1 minute silence in order to show the respect to the hereos of the Anzac Landing. After lifting the Turkish, Australian, and New Zealand flags up to the pole, speeches mentionning the importance of the Anzac Day was performed. After the speeches, the Dawn Service was performed with respect to Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lifes in the Gallipoli Campaign. Australia General Governor, Micheal Jeffery, President of New Zealand House of Representitives, Margaret Wilson, Military Attaché of Canada, Yvan Houle, The Turkey Ambassador of France, Jean Christophe Peaucelle, Marine Forces Commander of Australia, Russ Shallden, Vice Governor of Canakkale, Hasan Senses and many other official representives have attended celebration ceremonies of the 91th anniversary of the Anzac Day. After the Dawn Service, ceremonies in the Australia Monument, 57th Division Monument, and New Zealand Monument were held. Several Australian and New Zealand Citezens who have attened the 91 th Anniversary of the Anzac Day Ceremonies expressed to be in the Gallipoli Peninsula for Anzac Day as an unforgettable wonderful experience.

THE RESEARCH OF ANZAC PRISONERS OF WAR

In the concept of the cooperation between Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University (COMU) of Turkey and Sydney University of Australia, The Research Of Anzac Prisoners Of War in the Gallipoli Campaign has been conducted by the academician Jenifer Lawless. In the press meeting, which was held in the Ibrahim Bodur Innovation Center of COMU, Ms Jennifer Lawless told that she has been in here to perform a deep research on Anzac Prisoners of War in Turkey. Ms Lawless added that this issue has never been studied before, and she thought that the research would be the Pioneer in this field 90 years after the Gallipoli Campaign. Ms Lawless stated that although she is Australian, her wife is Turkish and this would make the context of the study more interesting. Ms Lawless told that the research would be influnced both from Turkish and Australian History Literature.    Ms Lawless added that she has been studying on this research for 5 years and would be in Turkey for 4 months in order to expand her studies. Ms Lawless told that after finalising the research, she would publish her studies in a book. Ms Lawless stated that she has impressed with the kind behaviours of Turkish Soldiers and Turkish Commanders to the Anzac Prisoners of War during the Gallipoli Campaign.

AUSTRALIAN CONSULATE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED IN CANAKKALE

Australian Consulate has been launhced in Canakkale in its temporary office in Kolin Hotel. After the openning, Peter Rennert, Australian Consul of Canakkale, Defence Attaché Colonel Enrico Casagrande and Australian Ambassador Jean Dunn have performed a visit to the Canakkale Governor, Orhan KIRLI. Amassador DUNN told that openning an Australian Consulate in Canakkale can be considered as the most important sign of our interest to Canakkale. Ambassador DUNN added that we have very strong relationships in Canakkale, and we would like to make them even more stronger with the openning of the new consulate. Ambassodor DUNN stated that the new Australian Consulate in Canakkale would help the coordination of the Anzac Day Ceremonies, and would strenghten the relationships between Canakkale andAustralia.
