Usa Support To Excavation Works In The Ancient Assos
American Archeology Institute would support the excavation works in the Ancient City Assos, where is located in the district of Ayvacik town of Canakkale. The first excavation works in The Ancient city Assos, where is located around 100 km away Canakkale, was first initiated by the American Archeology Institute between 1881 and 1883. The authorities told that in the last 25 years, the excavations in the ancient Assos was directed by Professor Umit Serdaroglu until his unfortunate dead in 2005. Later on, the excavation was headed by the Associative Professor Nurettin Aslan on behalf of Turkiye Repuclic Culture and Tourism Ministry. In 2006, Associative Professor Nurettin Aslan has prepared an international project with regards to the ancient Assos and the project has been submitted to American Archeology Institute. After the approval of the projecy by the Americal Archeology Institute, it is decided to support the excavation works in the Ancient City Assos. In the concept of the project, the restoration works of the temple of Athena would be in progress during this year's excavation programme in Assos.
