GALLIPOLI - LONDON ANZAC MARATHOON |

In
order to honor the Anzac Sprit, 24 Firefigther
from Melbourne, Australia and 1 firefigther from
Canakkale have started the Anzac Marathon from
Gallipoli to London. A ceremony has been
perfomed in front of the Canakkale Fire
Department before the start of the Marathon. The
Marathon would be 4075 Km long and the
firefighers had started the Anzac Marathon on
April 26, 2008 from the Anzac Cove. Canakkale
Australian Consul, Peter Rennert, told that the
Marathon is planned to be completed on May 18,
2008, in Hyde Park, London. The firefighters
would be escorted by 1914 French Made,
historical firefighter car during the Marathon.
After the speeches in the ceremony in front of
the Canakkale Fire Department, some gifts have
been givem to the Turkish firefighters by the
Australian firefighters. Cuneyt Goncu, the
firefighter of Canakkale fire department, would
attend the Marathon with the Australian
Firefighters. Cuneyt Goncu would run till Atina.

THE OLIMPICS TRAVEL WITH BICYCLES
The 17 cyclists arrived to Canakkale on their
route to Pekin Olympics in order to hand the
Olimpics Torch which was taken from Athens. 17
Cyclists from Germany and Sweden departed from
Athens 20 days ago on February 19, and arrived
to Canakkale on their route to Pekin Olympics.
It is told that cyclists would leave Turkiye on
March 30th from Georgia Border. It is planned to
arrive Pekin, China by August 6, 2008. The total
duration of the trip is estimated around 175
days. The Olympist Cyclists would follow to
Lapseki, Bandirma and Bursa on their Turkiye
route. The oldest member of the cyclists group,
Diether Koehler, told that he is 73 years old
and they are planning to be in Pekin at the end
of the 175th day of the trip. One of the other
group member, Heine Becker, told that the 17
cyclists has composed a very strong team, and
they have trained well very before the departure
of the long lasting olympic cycle trip. The
group had departed to Bandirma after their break
in Canakkale |

USA SUPPORT
TO EXCAVATION WORKS IN THE ANCIENT ASSOS
American
Archeology Institute would support the
excavation works in the Ancient City Assos,
where is located in the district of Ayvacik town
of
Canakkale. The first excavation
works in The Ancient city Assos, where is
located around 100 km away
Canakkale, was first initiated by
the American Archeology Institute between 1881
and 1883. The authorities told that in the last
25 years, the excavations in the ancient Assos
was directed by Professor Umit Serdaroglu until
his unfortunate dead in 2005. Later on, the
excavation was headed by the Associative
Professor Nurettin Aslan on behalf of Turkiye
Repuclic Culture and Tourism Ministry. In 2006,
Associative Professor Nurettin Aslan has
prepared an international project with regards
to the ancient Assos and the project has been
submitted to American Archeology Institute. After
the approval of the projecy by the Americal
Archeology Institute, it is decided to support
the excavation works in the Ancient City Assos.
In the concept of the project, the restoration
works of the temple of Athena would be in
progress during this year's excavation programme
in Assos. |

MISS WORLDS WILL MEET IN CANAKKALE
Miss Civilization Of The World Contest would be
performed in Canakkale on April, 2008. The
honarary president of Miss Civilization Of The
World, Suha Ozgermi, came to Canakkale and told
that he had come to Canakkale in order to talk
the details of the contest. Mr Ozgermi stated
that it is decided to perform the Miss
Civilization Of The World Contest on April 12,
2008 with the participation of 22 countries and
continued that as being the first homeland of
Miss World, which was performed in Mount Ida,
Canakkale has a speacial importance. Mr Ozgermi
told that this would be a very important chance
for Canakkale in order to promote her historical
and touristical values. Mr Ozgermi told that
first, pre-eliminations in several countries
would be performed in order to select the
participants of Miss Civilization Of The World ,
then the selected participants would be taken
into a camp in Canakkale between April 5 and 12,
2008. During the camp, the beautiful ladies
would be trained and also visit the historical
and touristical spots of Canakkale. Mr Ozgermi
added that around 100 international tv channels
would broadcast the World Contest. The president
of the juri would be the famous Turkish Singer,
Gonul Yazar. Furthermore, the past president of
Galatasaray Sport Club, Alp Yalman and the past
president of Fenerbahce Sport Club, Ali Sen,
would also vote as the part of the juri. |

2400 YEARS OLD FIG
2400 Years old Fig has been found during the
excavations of the ancient city of Assos. The
2400 years old fig was found inside of a
sarcophagus and it was assumed that the fig was
put inside the sarcophagus as a last meal to
dead body. The head of the excations in the
Ancient City of Assos, Associative Proffessor
Nurettin Aslan, told that they have revealed
interesting findings during the year 2007
excavation period in Assos. Professor Aslan told
that they have found 2 burnt figs inside of a
sarcophagus, and it is thought that the fig was
put inside the sarcophagus during the funeral of
a dead body as a symbol of the last meal of the
body. Professor Aslan explained how the figs
existed up to now as the result of burn of the
fig leading to become a coal and perfect
isolation conditions of the sarcophagus. After
the complete research of the findings, Professor
Aslan predicted that the figs are about 2400
years. Professor Aslan told that burnt olive
seeds had been found inside the sarcophagus. |

100 YEAR GUARANTEED HAND MADE CARPETS
The hand made carpets, which are being produced
in the Ayvacik town of Canakkale, has been
weaved with natural colouring method and offered
with 100 years guarantee against fading. With
the initiatives of Marmara University, Fine Arts
Faculty, a project called ' Natural Colour
Research and Development' has been started in
1982 in the Ayvacik Town of Canakkale. Doing so,
synthetic colouring has been replaced with
natural root colouring. With the initiation of
the project, several carpets that have been
produced in Ayvacik with natural root colouring
method, have attracted world wide interest and
as a result, Ayvacik Town is now exporting her
carpets to several countries as well as all over
the country. Suleymankoy Agriculturel
Development Cooperative Store Manager, Didem
Geral, told that, Suleymankoy Cooperative has
been built 26 years ago and at the moment the
cooperative has 305 members form 32 villages. Ms
Geral told that their aim is to market and
export the natural root coloured carpets of the
villagers in a high quality standard.Ms Geral
stressed that the carpets, which have been
produced in the monitoring of the Suleymankoy
Cooperative, have been exported to several
countries with 100 years non-fading guarantee of
the Marmara Univerisity. |

DIVING FOR MEMORY OF THE
MESUDIYE BATTLESHIP
A
ceremony has been performed for the memory of the 35
Mariners who lost their lives during the sunk of the
Mesudiye Battleship by the hit of the British submarine
B-11, 93 years ago. The Canakkale Onsekiz Mart
University Water Products Faculty, Under Water Society
Students, and 17 members of the Canakkale Underwater
Rescue Spor Club has departed to the field, where the
sunk of th Mesudiye Battleship happened, with the
research boat of Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University. The
academic advisor of the The Canakkale Onsekiz Mart
University Water Products Faculty, Under Water Society,
Professor Mustafa Alpaslan, stressed the importance of
the diving for the memory of the Mesudiye Battleship and
told that they want to show their respect to the memory
of the 35 Mariners with this diving ceremony. The
Trainer of Canakkale Underwater Rescue Spor Club, Mehmet
Gunaydin, told that after the successful achivements of
the Mesudiye Battleship during 1897 Ottoman - Greek War
and 1912 Balkans War, The Mesudiye Battleship was hit by
B 11 submarine during her efforts to defend the
dardanelles against British attacks during the Gallipoli
Campaign. Mr Gunaydin added that they are so happy to
perform a memorial diving ceremony for an hour in order
to honour the 35 Brave Mariners. It is told that the
diving ceremony in order to honour the martyries of
Mesudiye Battleship would continue in the coming years.
The divers stayed 1 minute silent in the sea in order to
show their respect. |

GIANT HECTOR STATUE WILL BE BUILT IN CANAKKALE
Turkiye Culture and Tourism Ministry announced
that a 100 meter giant statue of Troian Warior,
Hektor, would be buit on the enrance of the
Dardanelles Strait. Culture and Tourism Minister,
Ertugrul Gunay, has announced his ambition of
building a giant statute of the greatest warrior
of the ancient Troia, Hektor in Canakkale.
During the pland and budget comission of the
Tourism Ministry, Minister Gunay told that he
would like to share one of his dreams after
seeing the art work of folkloric walk of
Anatolian warrriors who come to defend the
ancient city Troia. Minister Gunay told that
Troian warriors was underestimated in the
Hollywood Troy movie, and thought that buiding a
giant statue of the greatest warrior of Troia,
Hektor, in the entrance of the Dardanelles
Strait which can easilly be recognised by all
ships passing by the Dardanelles. Minister Gunay
added doing so we would show our respect to one
of our greatest cultural values. |

DUMPLUPINAR DISASTER WOULD
BECOME A MOVIE
The
unfortunate crash of Dumlupinar Submarine and Swedish
Flagged Freighter 54 years ago, which resulted to the
death of 81 Turkish Mariners in the Dardanelles Strait,
is becoming a movie. The 'Dumlupinar' movie is being
directed by Onur Tan and Hakan Akyol. The directors have
been working on this project nearly 10 years.In the
movie of the unfortunate crash of Dumlupinar Submarine
and Swedish Flagged Freighter, Bruce Will and Nick Nolte
would also take place. Famous Turkish Actros and
Actresses, Haluk Bilginer, Fikret Kuskan, Ozan Guven,
Meltem Cumbul and Okan Bayulgen would play in the movie.
The 'Dumlupinar' movie would be recorded in Canakkale,
Antalya, Istanbul, Italy and Malta. While making the
film, the technical staff of the Titanic Movie, would
also contribute to some of the parts. While recording
the movie, some of the scenes would be made in the Malta
Underwater Studios with IT support. The budget of the 'Dumlupinar'
movie has been announced as 13 milion dolars, and 200
thousand USD support credit has been raised by the
Ministery of Culture and Tourism. The film would start
with the scuba dive of the World Record Medalist,
Yasemin Dalkilic, to the Dumlupinar Submarine in the
anniversary of the sunk. |
